COFFEE SHOPS ARNHEM NIJMEGEN

I discovered Arnhem in 1978 during my first trip to Amsterdam. Quality and prices were already much more attractive than in Amsterdam.

There was no official coffeeshops, what were the squats on Sonsbeeksingek with wild panels painted in large letters “hashish” AND ARROW TO INDICATE THE DIRECTION.

You could taste all the KINDS OF hashish ( no weed, just sometimes thai weed or jamaican weed ) before you make the market and go smoke in the wonderful Sonsbeeck Park.

But I had usually go to the Prix d’Ami and De Rokerij, ( all the Rokerij are closed ) sometimes to Melweg where there was good music and good hashish. But Arnhem was quieter … Discover the real fantastic story coffeeshops in the Netherlands. You can go to Nijmegen, cool city, quite near to the German border like Arnhem.

King’s Day in Amsterdam 27 April 2019

King’s Day ( Formerly Queen’s Day ) is the annual Dutch national holiday in honor of King Willem-Alexander. But it is especially a very good occasion to make a big party

If you like parties, make sure your visit to Amsterdam coincides with April 27 2019.

Book your hotel

Amsterdam where an average of 700.000 visitors join the 822.000+ locals in the world’s largest street party!

Many coffeeshops organize parties, do not hesitate! enter in coffeeshops!
Street carnival, dancing and singing combined with the open air free market, selling and buying of all kinds of small objects by almost all Amsterdam citizens.
Traditionally the reigning monarch portraits are on display and streets are decorated with national Dutch flags and the color of orange, the traditional color of the monarchy and the symbol of Dutch patriotism.
Many any people dress up as the King or wear the King’s insignia, while almost all try to have an orange accent in their clothing.
This is also the day to eat in the streets exotic food Indonesian, Surinamese, Moroccan or Turkish and drink beer or orange juice.

King’s night
Festivities start already in the evening before the King’s Day, called appropriately the King’s Night.
Amsterdam clubs organize during the King’s Night special parties and concerts.
Celebrations continue to the morning of the King’s Day, and often do not stop for another whole day.

Kingsday Street Market / Free market (Vrije markt)
The Dutch, traditionally the nation of sailors and merchants, celebrate their most important national holiday with selling and buying of small unnecessary objects from their households.
The prices are mostly symbolic. Starting as early as 7 A.M., the whole city center becomes a street market.
Most of people are selling their stuff directly in front of their house.
Fun is the most important here – do not expect to buy anything of value.
The tradition is to negotiate about the price and it happens, especially when children are trading, that buyer raises the price to show the playful character of this festive business.
Market activities peak at 11 A.M. and end around 4 P.M.

Boat Parade / King’s Day on the canals
A festive boat parade takes place for several hours in early afternoon, usually along the Prinsengracht canal.
People dance on boats and on the shore.
Sometimes some boats stop at the shore and will be willing to invite you to their floating party. Check the actual info for the boat parade parkour.
Different Amsterdam areas on the King’s Day
In different parts of the city the festivities take different course of action:

Kingsday Street Performers Museumplein / pop concerts
Museumplein is a traditional place for a big open air pop and disco music festival.
A crowd of young people is listening, often camping on the grass of the square.
Vondelpark / kids market
Vondelpark becomes on the King’s Day the free market for kids. Only children may sell here their toys and books.
Children are performing here on different instruments they learn to play at school or at home. It is a custom to admire them all, also those who are just the absolute beginners.
Jordaan – crowded market with folk singers music
The old area of the Jordaan, traditionally poor district of the city but now trendy Amsterdam area, becomes on the King’s Day most crowded free market area.
Many folk singers are performing popular Amsterdam songs directly in the streets.
South Amsterdam / the biggest market

www.coffeeshopamsterdam.net

Area close to the streets Beethovenstraat, Stadionweg and Apollolaan in South Amsterdam (Amsterdam Zuid) becomes on King’s Day the biggest street market, with most of the shopkeepers opening their special King’s Day stands there.
Westermarkt and Reguliersdwaarstraat / Gay parties♥
The most important gay parties are held on the Westermarkt at the Homo Monument and at the Reguliersdwarsstraat, where gay clubs are, in a 10 minutes walking distance from Leidseplein.
Dancing there will usually start already in an evening before, during the King’s Night.

Queen’s Day became with the succession on the Dutch Throne by Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands the King’s Day (Dutch: Koningsdag), celebrated on the day of His Majesty Birthday on April 27 each year. If this day falls on Sunday, the King’s Day will be celebrated on the Saturday day before!

Amsterdam apartment accommodation
Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands, is an old and very romantic European city, which captivates the traveler with its old town in the form of semicircle with five canals, great architecture, inspiring choice of art galleries and museums and lovely sites for walking, shopping and relaxation. joyeux noel amsterdam 2012 2013
Over the Amstel River that runs across the city could be counted approximately four hundred bridges and ninety islands.

With its unique combination of old-world charm and cosmopolitan culture, friendly atmosphere and tolerant attitude of the locals, Amsterdam is one of the most popular European cities for international visitors.
The idyllic combination of historical sites, cultural venues and great entertainment spots, turn Amsterdam into a lively city and contemporary scene, and thus into a tempting tourist destination.

Perfect to be explored on foot, Amsterdam has a superb choice of landmarks. Besides the accommodation options in the old town with its small streets and canals, serviced rental apartments are to be found in the city center near the Oude Kerk, the windmills the De Otter and the Molen van Sloten, the Van Gogh Museum and the Diamond Museum. Nice Amsterdam hotels are also set near the Artis Zoo with the Aquarium and the Planetarium, and next to the Zandvoort beach area. The holiday apartments in Amsterdam are generally located in the old town and the areas of Damark and Rokin, where the Amstel River flows.

These vacation accommodation spots are of different types and capacity to welcome one to several guests. Some of the equipped rental units are more suitable for business travellers as they are set near the airport and the business district, while others are more central and oriented towards the families with kids and other leisure-time holiday-makers. Fully equipped to provide maximum comfort and relaxation, the Amsterdam apartments for rent have reasonable prices as well.

schiphol amsterdam 2012

Schiphol is the main airport of the Netherlands and one of the major European airports, located 17.5 km south west of Amsterdam, in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

Eastern Haarlemmermeer in 1740
In the early twentieth century, Schiphol was a military airbase built in September 1916. It was a simple airfield consisted of a few huts, using a pre-track. The civilian airport is 17 May 1920. When the first civilian aircraft began using in December 1920, he was sometimes called the “Marsh Schiphol.”
Hotels in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam
Schiphol is the name of an old fortification called “Fort Schiphol” which was part of the defense line of Amsterdam, a belt of fortifications around the city.

Save on your hotel - hotelscombined.com

Before 1852, the Haarlemmermeer polder along the airport did not exist and there was a large lake, known for its sudden and violent storms. An arm of the lake, which was near the town of Amstelveen, called the Schipshol, literally “schip hol”, “the hole, the refuge boat.”

Finding the right hotel just got a whole lot easier - hotelscombined.com

The airport is also a major railway station served by Thalys line.
A shopping center Schiphol Plaza is located upstream of the Customs and serves as the Dutch and the passengers. It includes a supermarket, Food Village, open until midnight seven days a week.

Open  7am until 8pm daily. Most shops open closer to 10am so this is unusual and it’s no doubt partly due to the layover phenomenon and the fact that it’s the closest place to the train station as well. Many of these layover flights land in Amsterdam around 6am or 7am, so this place is open to meet your early morning weed-smoking needs.

Amsterdam Centraal is the central railway station of Amsterdam. It is also one of the main railway hubs of the Netherlands and is used by 250,000 passengers a day, excluding transferring passengers. It is the starting point of Amsterdam Metro lines 51, 53 and 54.

Dutch Railways website www.ns.nl

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Direct trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station run every 10 to 15 minutes between about 6 and 12:30 a.m. (every hour during other times). The trip takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Buy tickets either at the ticket desk on the arrivals level or at the yellow machines (with euro coins or with a debit card that uses a “PIN” code). Trains leave from platforms 1, 2 or 3, one floor below.

2nd-class Single: € 4.00
2nd-class Round-trip: € 8.00

The public transport OV-chipcard

The OV-chipcard is an electronic form of payment for travel on all public transport vehicles, which since June 1, 2010 has been introduced as an exclusive ticket form in Amsterdam. A credit card size OV-chpicard carries a memory chip, which registers your credit and deducts the cost of each journey from it.
Chip-in and chip-out
Entering the tram, train or a bus you have to flash your card in front of the special sensor placed inside the vehicle at the door (so called chipping-in), leaving you flash it again (chipping-out) and the cost of your journey is deducted automatically from your card.
If you forget to chip-out the card exiting the vehicle, the system will assume that you continued your journey and will charge you the maximum charge of € 4,00
The OV-chipcards system
Amsterdam residents use personal OV-chipcards. For a visitor an anonymous OV-chipcard, which can be purchased in many supermarkets, press shops and GVB offices, is a better choice. It costs € 7,50 and it is valid for 5 years, but it carries no credit. To travel you have to download the credit at special machines located at the stations and at the entry of many supermarkets.
Tourist best choice
If you are in Amsterdam only for a visit, more simple and more economical are 24-, 48-, 72-, 96-, 120-, 144- and 168- hour OV-chipcards, which allow for unlimited travel on all trams, buses, metros and night buses for the duration of the card.
One very economical option for visitors on a day trip to Amsterdam is the All Amsterdam Transport Pass. This works as a 24-hour pass for all GVB transport such as trams, buses and the metro as well as being a one day ticket for the city’s popular canal bus and granting discounts to popular attractions and restaurants.
You may buy All-in One Travel Tickets upon your arrival on Schiphol Airport.

THE MAIN DISTRICT (WALLETJES)

‘De Walletjes’ is desirable by everyone who visits Amsterdam. It’s not only for the great variation of girls who are working here but also for the nice and cozy area with his restaurants, bars, sexshops, sexshow / clubs and the coffeeshops.

prixdami2012

It’s a safe place to be. Just use your common sense and walk here or visit one of the bars, restaurants, clubs or girls! At ‘The Main Area’ (de Walletjes) are hundreds of windows, it’s the main sex-attraction of the city centre these days

Hundreds of people are walking and peeking here every day, evening or night throughout this area. It’s a nice, safe & great place to walk around.

Don´t take pictures of the girls in the windows, they really don´t like that! Just walk around, hop into the sexshops, see a show in a sextheatre, visit a peeshow, proof your luck in a gamblinghall, have a drink at one of the bars or use one of the attractions in the windows.

The Hague ( UPDATE 2017 july ) The number of coffee shops has fallen slightly again. By the end of 2016, there were 573 in the whole of the Netherlands, against 591 in 2014 and 617 in 2012. The decrease in the years 2015-2016 is the smallest since 2008.

Minister Stef Blok (Security and Justice) announced the figures on Tuesday. The measurement is performed every two years. The researchers report several reasons for the decline. Among other things, the approach of the municipality of Amsterdam and the so-called distance criterion, the minimum distance between a cattle shop and a school, has contributed to it.

In total there were 103 coffee shop towns at the end of last year. The average number of residents per coffee shop was 32,671.

Amsterdam is the municipality with the most coffeeshops in relation to the number of inhabitants: one per 4907. The capital is the only municipality where the number of residents per coffeeshop is less than 5000.

In total, Amsterdam had 173 coffee shops in December last year. Other major cities were significantly less: Rotterdam 40, The Hague 36 and Utrecht 10.

Zoetermeer only had one coffee shop for almost 125,000 inhabitants.

update 16/01/2017

Closing 15 Amsterdam coffee shops for the time being
The coffee shops are within 250 meters of a school, but may stay open anyway.
The municipality of Amsterdam suspend the closure of fifteen coffee shops.
The on coffee shops are so close to schools, that they do not conform to the applicable distance criterion of 250 meters in Amsterdam.
Nevertheless, they should remain open, writes Mayor Van der Laan Friday to the City Council.
He wants a judgment of the Supreme Court to wait on the weed pass, which is expected in the spring of 2016.
Amsterdam has in January 2014 decided that coffee shops are within 250 meters of a school period until six o’clock in the evening might be open, to bring students into contact with no soft drugs.
Furthermore, the municipality wanted the 27 coffee shops where it was “gradually close”.
First went eight coffee shops to close “in sight” of a school layers. Then the coffee shops that were within 150 meters walking distance of a school.
There are now fifteen coffee shops which are located within a walking distance of 250 meters from a school.
‘Weed pass unworkable’
The distance criterion was introduced at Amsterdam, as in Rotterdam and The Hague, as a ‘trade-off’ for the so-called resident criterion.
That came from the then Minister Opstelten (Security and Justice, VVD) and meant that only residents of a municipality could get a pass which they were allowed to purchase soft drugs.
For Amsterdam, with millions of tourists that (also) come to the soft drugs and coffee shops, it was an unworkable criterion.
Mayor Van der Laan has been negotiating with the Ministry related to the distance criterion.
Fears rise of street dealers
In recent months much discussion about consequences of the closure of coffee shops.
The remaining coffee shops had an influx of customers that they can hardly cope. The fractions of D66 and GroenLinks warned of the rise of street dealers and hang-smokers for the coffeeshops.
In an interview with this newspaper, conducted before van der Laan announced his decision, lat D66 leader Jan Paternotte is critical of the policies of the mayor: ”
When I look at the CCTV, the closure of coffee shops to close a school are, to how he prepares for weed control, then I think the mayor very closely with VVD ministers Opstelten and Van der Steur. He is docile to me there. ”
“Residents are mad of smoking tourists’
D66 this morning sent out a press release under the title “Through D66 and GroenLinks closure of coffee shops for the time being.”
Paternotte says this:
“People get their hashish and marijuana now wishes at the coffee shop, then waiting for a spot in the crowded coffee shops.
Amsterdammers can perhaps still smoke it at home, but tourists do on the street. Residents are mad. “
Mayor Van der Laan refers in his letter to a monitor showing the remaining coffee shops have indeed gotten a lot busier, but that the disturbance in the street has not increased noticeably.
Van der Laan observes that “Amsterdam after all the measures already taken at this point still has 174 coffee shops.
Compared to The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht which house 85 more coffeeshops together total, Amsterdam retains a rich and dense coffee shop system. “

The weedpass has never been applied and ever will be in Amsterdam.
After a year of meetings between the Mayor of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan and Ivo Opstelten, Minister of Security and Justice, Amsterdam was exempted from this requirement. Therefore its coffeeshops can continue to accommodate tourists.
In exchange, van der Laan has promised that crime and nuisance associated with coffee shops will be treated firmly, and that the city will continue to address drug use in young children – partly by observing national directive distance from the federal government.

Because of uncertainty about the central government policies and their effect in Amsterdam, home to a third of all coffeeshops in the Netherlands, this date has been changed, the first in January 1, 2013, no later than January 1, 2014.

For coffeeshops located within 250 meters of a school, there will be three phases, during each of which a number of them will lose their tax tolerance.
There will be an evaluation of the second phase to measure the consequences of the closure of these coffeeshops, and the reduction of working hours, already in force this year 2014.
Phase 1
From 1 July 2014 Tolerance Declaration 10 coffeeshops expire,
Phase 2
From 1 January 2015 the 4 coffeeshops tolerance Declaration situated within 150 meters walk near schools expire.
Phase 3
The Declaration of tolerance of the 17 coffeeshops other, all in 150 to 250 meters of schools, will expire.

UPDATE 2015 OCTOBER 2

Council sets policy despite outcomes research
All the coffee shops in schools close
AMSTERDAM
The closure of coffee shops around schools does not provide for reduced soft drug use among young people. Still going Mayor Van der Laan the last 15 coffee shops nearby educational institutions, close.
As of January 1, it is done with the remaining weed stores situated within a radius of 250 meters around schools (the distance criterion). In 2008 it was agreed that this was the minimum distance between an educational institution and a coffee shop, to reduce soft drug use among young people. Initially, it would go to 44 coffee shops in Amsterdam, which after recalculations was adjusted to 26 marijuana shops.
The ban was introduced in phases. First of all coffee shops were commissioned in January 2014 to close its doors during the day as long as the schools were open. Halfway through that year, the first closures were implemented; it involved eight coffee shops which were in the direct sight of a schoolyard. This year a new group of entrepreneurs weed had to step down because they were located within 150 meters of a school.
But the distance criterion does not seem to work, we can read in a report by research firm Intraval. “The interviews with the representatives of the schools shows that not any of them have the idea that the proximity of coffee shops in their school students impels to use cannabis,” the researchers conclude the consequences of coffeeshops at the request of Van der Laan have been mapped.
Ten local policemen interviewed confirm this in the report. “Since limiting the opening of coffee shops has not changed it. Two representatives noted that the coffee shop owners are just keen to ensure that there are no minors in the coffee, because of the risk of losing their tolerance statement. One school is working with the coffee shop owner to prevent this. “
Moreover, the soft drug use declining among young people since 2001, was introduced so far for the distance criterion.
Remarkably enough, it appears from the report that most residents both before and after closing the coffee shops are very satisfied with living in the neighborhood and did not feel unsafe going to be. The closure of coffee shops in the city appears to have hardly affect the inconvenience. At the top of that list is because noise from regular clubbers.
Van der Laan, who is a very critical majority in the city council in his neck panting, says no other than to be able to proceed with the closure. “I want and therefore can not help but keep my appointment with the minister. There is no extra inconvenience and there is no public disorder identified by closing the coffee shops. “
For the 15 coffeeshops, the curtain falls on January 1, 2016. The City Council will discuss the plan later this month.
